UK Group Demands Justice for Slain Manipuri Musician in Delhi

Imphal: The North East Indians in UK (NEIUK) wants an immediate investigation into the death of Vikram Chongtham. The Manipuri musician died in New Delhi on September 7. His killing triggered outrage among community members abroad and at home. The organization demands the culprits face the law.

NEIUK insists the probe must be "swift, transparent and thorough." They expressed solidarity with the family and friends of the deceased. The group claims this violence fits a pattern. Northeast Indians living elsewhere in the country face persistent threats.

They cited the death of 24-year-old Tripura student Anjel Chakma, who died after a brutal assault in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. These deaths serve as grim markers for the community. The group reported a rise in verbal abuse, racial discrimination, harassment, and stereotyping. "These incidents cannot simply be viewed in isolation," the group stated.

Authorities must wake up. The NEIUK called on the Centre, the Delhi government, and the Delhi Police to implement better safety measures. They want officials to record, track, and act on all complaints regarding bias and intimidation. Every citizen has a right to live without fear. "Vikram deserves justice. His family deserves answers," the group noted.
