Imphal: Violence and tragedy hit Thoubal district hard over a single day. Two people are dead after separate, unrelated incidents shook the region. Police are now running investigations into both cases.

A 25-year-old man, Sapam Swami, turned up dead near the Khekman Ningthibi Khong Canal on July 5. He left for work the day before and never came home. Forensic teams collected the body for an autopsy, but locals suspect foul play. A Joint Action Committee formed quickly to demand answers from the state. They refuse to accept the body until police catch the killers. JAC convenor Sapam Mocha stated, "the committee would not accept the body until those responsible are identified and arrested."

A separate disaster struck just past midnight on Asian Highway-1. A 17-year-old boy named Elangbam Mahesh died instantly after his scooter slammed into a parked Maruti van near the Wangjing Toll Tax station. The rider, 20-year-old Mayengbam Renedy, survived the wreck. Medics rushed him to JNIMS Hospital for treatment. Police confirm the pair were traveling from Wangjing toward Thoubal when they hit the parked vehicle. Officers continue to piece together the evidence for both files.
