Guwahati: Police pulled two bodies from a pond at Chotahapjan 17 No. Line in Assam’s Tinsukia district late Wednesday. The deceased were identified as Om Gowala and Janu Munda. Locals believe the two were in a relationship before they died.

Gowala left his home following dinner on Wednesday night. Shortly after, neighbors discovered the pair in the water and called the cops. A team from Makum Police Station, led by Officer-in-Charge Pulak Kumar, arrived to handle the recovery.

Authorities sent the remains to Tinsukia Medical College and Hospital. They need a post-mortem report to know what happened. "The investigation is at a preliminary stage. The exact cause of death can only be ascertained after the post-mortem examination and collection of all relevant evidence," a police official said.

Officials have registered a case. They are looking into all possibilities, including accident or suicide. Police asked the public to avoid guessing the cause of death while the medical examination remains pending.
