Imphal: Militants ambushed an Assam Rifles patrol near Nungshangkong in the Ukhrul district on Monday. The attack killed two soldiers and left several others wounded. Police are currently hunting for the shooters.

Kuki civil society organisations pinned the blame on the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak-Muivah. The group denied having any role in the deadly ambush. The state government remains focused on the investigation.

Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla mourned the "tragic loss of two brave Assam Rifles personnel." He stated that such violence cannot break the security forces.

Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh promised a harsh response. He told the public the state "will not remain a mute spectator" regarding the violence. Home Minister Govindas Khonthoujam echoed these vows while calling for the injured to recover. Officials are now pushing for unity to bring peace back to the region.
