Imphal: Armed attackers ambushed a 40 Assam Rifles convoy near Nungshang Kong in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on July 6. Two soldiers died. The patrol came under fire while moving through the area, leaving multiple personnel critically wounded.

Medics attempted to airlift the injured to Imphal for urgent care. The soldiers died at the Assam Rifles camp in Sangshak after their condition worsened during transport. Security forces have since flooded the area to track down the assailants.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey condemned the bloodshed. In a statement posted to social media, she called the assault a "dastardly act of violence" and insisted such attacks cannot break the collective push for security. She sent her condolences to the families of the fallen men and prayed for the recovery of those still suffering from injuries.

Home Minister K. Govindas Singh also denounced the strike before the deaths were confirmed. He stated the violence disrupts the peace and harmony the state works to build.
