Two Assam Rifles Soldiers Killed in Manipur Ambush

Imphal: Armed militants ambushed a 40 Assam Rifles convoy near Nungshang Kong in Manipur on Monday. The attack killed Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar C.M. Singh. The soldiers were heading back to their base in Shangshak when gunmen opened fire at 3:50 p.m. Bullets flew for two hours.

Farmers fled the nearby paddy fields as the soldiers fought back. The two men initially suffered severe wounds during the firefight. Medics moved them to the Sangshak camp after attempts to reach Imphal failed, but both men died from their injuries.

Security forces now swarm the Ukhrul district. They launched a massive search operation to track down the shooters. No insurgent group has claimed the hit yet. Manipur Home Minister K. Govindas Singh condemned the violence, stating, "Such incidents only disrupt the peace and harmony that we all aspire to uphold."

Authorities have tightened security across the region. Officials remain on high alert while investigators comb the area for evidence. The hunt for the killers continues.
