Shillong: Police in Meghalaya have arrested two individuals following an assault at the Centrepoint Group construction site in Laitkynsew, Sohra. East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed the arrests and noted that the suspects are currently being held in four days of police custody.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of those detained as the investigation into the incident continues. The company reported that roughly 15 individuals, who claimed to represent the Khasi Students Union, entered the project site on Thursday afternoon and attacked the laborers.

The assault left five workers injured. One victim, Raj Kumar Sharma, was taken to the hospital for treatment of serious head wounds. Centrepoint Group Managing Director Larsing Sawyan condemned the violence as unlawful and warned that such acts could deter future investment and hinder the state's economic progress. He has called on local officials to take firm action against those responsible.
