Shillong: Tura held a passing out parade for the 5th Basic Training Course on Wednesday at Agillanggre Field. The event marked the official start for new home guards joining the force. Merinpole K Sangma, Inspector General of Shillong SDRF and Director of Civil Defence, served as the chief guest for the occasion.
Sangma inspected the parade and oversaw the Nishan Toli ceremony. Under the guidance of Tura Home Guards Divisional Commandant PT Sangma, the new recruits took their oaths. The trainees then performed a march past before the District Home Guards Commandant presented the official training report.
The event drew a crowd of local residents, families of the graduates, and various officials. High-performing recruits received special awards for their physical training and drill excellence. Addressing the crowd, Sangma praised the dedication shown by the new members. He stated, "Ia training-o skie ra·gipa namgipa gunrangan home guard-rangni kam ka·anirango dilgen." He encouraged the group to maintain their commitment while performing their Civil Defence duties.
