Truck Driver Killed in Shooting Along Imphal-Ukhrul Highway: Suspected Kuki Militant Ambush

Imphal: A truck driver died on Friday after suspected armed militants opened fire near TM Kasom in the Ukhrul district. The victim was traveling toward Ukhrul when shots were fired from the Patleijang area around 11 am. Local authorities confirmed the incident took place on NH 202, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Litan Police Station.

Security forces, including the Army and the Border Security Force, launched search operations in the vicinity following the attack. The highway remains a flashpoint for violence, as earlier in the day, security personnel used tear gas to disperse a blockade at Sangkai Kuki Khul. Volunteers had attempted to obstruct the movement of supply trucks, leading to a confrontation that resulted in multiple injuries.

The unrest has left several loaded vehicles stranded along the route. Officials report that the situation in the area remains volatile while the security presence is increased to restore order.
