Agartala: The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress Committee has requested an official investigation into allegations of human rights abuses and power misuse by a CRPF officer. The complaint, filed with the state Human Rights Commission on June 17, stems from a demonstration regarding the NEET paper leak held two days earlier.
Neel Kamal Saha, president of the youth group, identified the officer involved as Ram Kumar, a three-star official with the 140th battalion. The incident occurred on Akhaura Road between RMS Chowmuhani and IGM Hospital while protesters were marching from Congress Bhavan toward a police barricade.
Saha claimed that protesters were demonstrating peacefully against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan when the officer suddenly initiated a lathi charge without provocation. According to the complaint, the officer used offensive language and targeted activists, including women, leading to serious injuries such as bone fractures and head wounds.
In his formal request for an inquiry, Saha stated, “Ram Kumar also attempted to outrage the modesty of our female activist.” The organization maintains that these actions were taken without authorization from senior police officials present at the scene and is now seeking legal intervention to ensure justice for the injured activists.
