Agartala: Tripura is set to establish its first government-run Ayurvedic medical college and hospital in the Gomati district. Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that the project received official clearance from the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine under the Ministry of AYUSH. The new facility will be located in Udaipur.

The institution will begin its first academic session in 2026-2027 with an annual intake of 60 students. Saha described the development as a major milestone for the state, noting that it will expand the reach of traditional medicine while creating new career paths for local students. He specifically thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in strengthening medical infrastructure across the region.

Saha said the institution would significantly boost Ayurvedic education in the state, encourage the growth of traditional medicine systems and open up fresh opportunities for students interested in pursuing studies and careers in Ayurveda. Beyond education, the hospital aims to integrate traditional treatments into the mainstream healthcare network. It is expected to become a primary hub for research and clinical services in the Northeast.
