Agartala: Tripura shifted its sand mining oversight. The Industry and Commerce Department now controls the industry. This change took effect on September 1, 2026. A formal notification came from the Directorate of Industry and Commerce in Khejurbagan, Agartala.

The Industry and Commerce Department handles everything now. It manages permit renewals, mining plan approvals, lease executions, and all associated paperwork. Officials stated, "The new framework is designed to streamline sand extraction management, improve transparency, and ensure compliance with regulatory norms."

Stakeholders must now go to the Industry and Commerce Department for all sand operations. Applicants must follow the latest government orders and prescribed guidelines. The Forest Department steps back from routine approvals. It will only handle matters within its specific legal domain or tasks assigned separately by the state.
