Agartala: A high-level probe is now underway following a deadly apartment blast in Agartala. The explosion ripped through a building on Ramnagar Road No. 4 around 12:30 pm on June 25. Subhrajit Chowdhury died from severe burns at GB Pant Hospital this Friday.

Chief Minister Manik Saha blamed suspected negligence by the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited for the accident. The victim suffered 90 percent burns after a build-up of leaked gas ignited. This happened when he lit an incense stick inside his office.

The victim's wife, Reshmi Saha, stated, "My husband told me there was a leakage from the piped gas line." She noted that he was praying when the force of the blast hit him.

The state Urban Development Department formed a committee to find answers. It includes the Secretary of Urban Development, the Municipal Commissioner, and top police officials. The team must hand in their report within seven days. The Chief Minister promised compensation to the family and vowed to punish anyone found responsible for the safety failure.
