Agartala: Doctors at the Agartala Government Medical College and GBP Hospital recently completed Tripura's first complex Uterine Arteriovenous Malformation embolization. This minimally invasive procedure provided a vital solution for a 38-year-old woman from the Dhalai district who suffered from severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding.
Professor Dr. J. L. Baidya identified the patient's critical condition within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Department and coordinated an urgent response. The medical team utilized a catheter-based endovascular technique to place coils in the patient's right uterine artery and feeder vessels. This approach successfully addressed the malformation without the need for open surgery.
The three-hour operation was led by interventional cardiologist Dr. Anindya Sundar Trivedi, with support from cardiologists Dr. Rakesh Das and Dr. Manna Bhattacharya. Anesthesia was managed by Dr. Rimjhim Chakma and Dr. Monimoy Debbarma. The patient received this treatment at no cost through the Ayushman Bharat health scheme, marking a significant advancement for the state's medical capabilities.
