Agartala: The Bharatiya Janata Party has appointed Matarbari constituency MLA Abhishek Debroy as the new president of its Tripura state unit. The move marks a significant leadership shift for the party as it looks toward its future organizational goals in the region.

Debroy, who has served as a legislator for the Gomati district since 2023, takes over the position from Rajib Bhattacharjee. Bhattacharjee led the state unit starting in 2022 and was recently elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2024 following his long tenure in party leadership that began in 1991.

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha welcomed the appointment on social media. He expressed confidence that Debroy would bring dynamic leadership and vision to the role, helping the party better serve the people of Tripura. This change follows recent discussions between Chief Minister Saha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and national party president Nitin Navin regarding the state's development and organizational structure.
