Agartala: Tripura Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath handed out Queen Pineapples to an IndiGo flight crew on Thursday. The fruit went to the pilot, co-pilot, and cabin staff flying from Agartala to New Delhi. It was a play for local pride. The state wants more eyes on its signature crop.
Nath joined forces with Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee for the stunt. It serves as a lead-up to the Tripura Global Pineapple Festival 2026. The event runs from June 27 to June 29 at Agartala’s Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Officials hope the festival connects farmers with national exporters and buyers.
Nath touted the fruit as a symbol of the state's agricultural grit. "Tripura’s Queen Pineapple is more than just a fruit. It represents the dedication of our hardworking farmers, the richness of Tripura’s soil and the growing pride of our state," Nath said.
The festival aims to blow the lid off new market opportunities for the local horticulture sector. It will pull in entrepreneurs and stakeholders from across India.
