Tripura Man Gets Life Sentence for Wife Murder

Agartala: A District and Sessions Court in Khowai handed Pradip Nath Chowdhury a life sentence for murdering his wife. The 40-year-old man must also pay a 10,000 rupee fine. If he fails to pay, he faces another six months behind bars.

The trouble began on April 6, 2024. Chowdhury attacked Pratima Nath Chowdhury at their home in Gourangatilla. He used a wooden object to strike her. The beating caused severe head trauma and multiple broken bones. Doctors rushed her to a local clinic before moving her to AGMC and GBP Hospital in Agartala, where she died from the injuries.

The couple had been married for six years. Police registered the crime under Kalyanpur Police Station Case No. 06/2024. Sub-Inspector Sourav Das handled the investigation and filed the charge sheet on August 31, 2024. According to a statement issued by Tripura Police, the judge found the accused guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
