Agartala: A Tripura judge locked away a 55-year-old man for 20 years. Gopal Ghosh will serve the time for a brutal assault on a minor. The Additional District and Sessions Judge in Agartala handed down the sentence on July 8. He convicted Ghosh under Section 4(2) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

The crime happened on January 25. Ghosh lured the young victim into his home in Ananganagar's Hathat Colony. He shut the door and attacked. Sub-Inspector Rahul Das led the investigation, filing a chargesheet by the end of February.

The court hit Ghosh with a 50,000 rupee fine. He must add three months to his sentence if he fails to pay. The ruling follows legal proceedings listed as case SPL (POCSO) 07/2024. Officials confirmed the verdict "found the accused guilty and awarded the sentence in accordance with the provisions of the POCSO Act."
