Agartala: Tripura stands to gain 1,040 crore rupees this year from the Centre’s fresh rural livelihood push. Social Welfare Minister Tinku Roy confirmed the funding for the VB-GRAM G scheme on Thursday. The money hits the bank during the final nine months of the current fiscal year.

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan kicked off the national program from Andhra Pradesh. Roy joined the stream from Rabindra Bhavan to mark the rollout. The state intends to use these funds to plug holes in development that previous programs missed.

The initiative covers land leveling, flood protection, and water conservation efforts. Roy expects these works to strengthen village infrastructure. The minister shut down claims that the BJP government plans to kill off the MGNREGA program. He insisted this new venture provides more value.

Paychecks for rural workers are climbing. The daily wage jumps from 240 rupees to 300 rupees under the new rules. Roy noted that this hike targets the root of local poverty. "With the implementation of VB-GRAM G, he said, the higher wage of Rs 300 per day would directly improve the livelihoods of poor rural workers."

State coffers previously held 1,100 crore through the old MGNREGA system. The government views this new 1,040 crore grant as a massive win for a small state.
