Agartala: Tripura marked the 73rd International Everest Day on Friday by celebrating the historic achievement of Aritra Roy, the first person from the state to reach the summit of Mount Everest. The global event honors the legacy of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, who completed the first successful ascent of the peak in 1953.

Roy reached the 8,848.86 meter summit on May 19, 2025. His accomplishment earned him national recognition and provided inspiration for many adventure enthusiasts across the Northeast. Before his climb, Roy demonstrated extreme dedication by completing a 1,400 kilometer bicycle journey from Agartala to Nepal to prepare his physical and mental endurance.

Beyond his successful climb, Roy further established his reputation in the mountaineering community by participating in the Everest Marathon held near the base camp. His journey remains a source of pride for Tripura, highlighting the state's growing presence in the world of high altitude adventure.
