Agartala: Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat in the West Tripura District has earned national recognition by securing the Silver Award in the 2026 National e-Governance Awards. The honor, presented by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, highlights the panchayat's commitment to modernizing local administration and making government services accessible to the public.
State Minister Ratan Lal Nath praised the achievement, noting that the recognition demonstrates how local institutions can lead the way in digital governance. He stated, "This national recognition of Bijoynagar Gram Panchayat for technology-based public services at the grassroots level, innovative initiatives, and making government services more accessible to the common man is a matter of great pride for the entire Tripura."
The award recognizes the panchayat for several key milestones, including the launch of the Gram Barta app and new artificial intelligence initiatives for education. Furthermore, the district has promoted digital literacy among local women and stands as the only panchayat in the state to achieve 100 percent digitization of its legacy records and historical documents.
Bijoynagar is one of only two panchayats in India to receive this prestigious award this year, ranking second behind a district in Maharashtra. Minister Nath attributed this success to the collective dedication of local officials, representatives, and residents who worked to implement these digital improvements.
