Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha presented a series of development proposals at the 73rd Plenary Session of the North Eastern Council in Shillong on Thursday. Attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, the meeting focused on accelerating the regional growth of Northeast India.

Dr. Saha emphasized the state's progress under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that Tripura's Gross State Domestic Product has doubled in six years. He reported that the state attracted over Rs. 30,000 crore in investments last year and has seen significant improvements in healthcare, including an 80 percent reduction in patient referrals outside the state. Addressing the assembly, Dr. Saha said, "Tripura has witnessed significant socio-economic progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the support of Union Home Minister Amit Shah."

The Chief Minister outlined several infrastructure priorities, including the introduction of a Vande Bharat Express between Agartala and Guwahati. He called for the completion of the Badarpur-Sabroom double-line railway project and requested the operationalization of direct air services between Agartala and Chittagong. Additionally, he urged the Ministry of DoNER to sanction a new Information Technology Park.

Infrastructure demands also included requests to the National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited to prioritize four-laning projects on major state road stretches. Dr. Saha concluded his appeal by requesting a 40 percent rebate on natural gas prices and the establishment of an AIIMS facility in Agartala to further strengthen the state's public infrastructure.
