Agartala: Reflecting on four years of governance, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently highlighted substantial advancements across several key sectors, including healthcare, education, law and order, and job creation. Since the BJP administration took office in 2018, the state has prioritized the strengthening of public services while emphasizing transparency in both recruitment and administrative processes.
The healthcare sector has experienced a notable transformation under this leadership. The central government recently approved a budget of Rs 273 crore to expand the Agartala Government Medical College, which includes increasing the number of MBBS seats from 150 to 250 starting in the next academic session. Additionally, the state is preparing to launch new ayurvedic and homoeopathic medical colleges to complement the existing nursing, dental, and paramedical institutions already operational in the region.
Regarding education, the Chief Minister noted that the establishment of various private universities and professional engineering colleges has provided students with significantly expanded opportunities within the state. These developments are intended to reduce the need for local students to seek higher education elsewhere.
Addressing the state of employment, Saha claimed that the administration has made consistent progress in tackling joblessness. He reported that approximately 22,000 individuals have secured regular government positions, while an additional 20,000 youths have been engaged through various outsourcing arrangements. Throughout these hiring drives, the government has maintained a commitment to total transparency.
Finally, Saha addressed the state's security profile, asserting that law and order remain stable. Citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau, he noted that Tripura currently ranks third from the bottom in the overall national crime statistics. While the Chief Minister expressed satisfaction with the current pace of development, he acknowledged that more work remains to meet the public's expectations.
