Torbung Groups Threaten Road Blockade After Shooting

Imphal: Seven civil society groups from Torbung, Phougakchao Ikhai, and Kwakta warned they will shut down Tiddim Road unless the government acts fast. The ultimatum follows a late-night shooting at Torbung Maning on July 3. Gunfire erupted around 11:20 pm, sending shockwaves through the local community.

The groups blame the violence on what they label as "suspected Kuki narco-terrorists." They argue this attack was no accident. It is part of a pattern of intimidation that has plagued the region for months. Residents are fed up. They claim the state and central security forces failed to protect them despite being stationed nearby.

The organizations now demand tighter security and immediate accountability for the security lapses. The groups issued a 24-hour deadline for officials to address the violence. If the clock runs out without a response, they plan to launch an indefinite economic blockade. They shifted the blame for any resulting chaos squarely onto the government and state authorities.
