Kohima: The Tikhir Tribal Council turned its October 12 Tsonglaknyi celebration into a somber memorial. A deadly incident on October 10 in Longtsonger village forced the group to cut its event short. Officials held a brief prayer session at headquarters to honor the dead. They also showed support for families hit by the ongoing conflict.
Violence erupted, forcing nearly 1,000 residents from Zaonger, Thulin, and Longtsonger villages. People also fled Pungro and Shamator towns. The Council slammed the violence as barbaric and senseless. Reports indicate attackers burned student books and school supplies. This destruction derailed the education of local youth.
The Council issued a sharp statement regarding the fallout. "Driving innocent people from their homes and destroying the educational future of students is an act of sheer inhumanity that deserves the strongest condemnation," the group wrote. They insist this crisis is not a minor dispute.
Leaders now demand immediate relief for the displaced. They want aid for the injured and the bereaved family. Most importantly, the Council demands safety for those who want to return home. They seek accountability for the perpetrators to restore dignity to the region. They claim no grievance justifies taking a life or ruining a student's future.
