Imphal: An improvised explosive device blew up Thursday in Joujangtek village. The blast happened prematurely along the Imphal-Khoupum road in Manipur’s Noney district. It left three people hurt. Two of the victims, Helum and Lemang, sustained serious wounds and went to Churachandpur Medical College for emergency care.
Miscreants were planting the device when it went off. Reports suggest the perpetrators were among those injured. Assam Rifles and Manipur Police teams hit the scene quickly to launch a formal investigation into the botched operation.
Violence is spiking in this area. Gunmen shot a farmer working in his fields just last week on June 18. That attack hit the man in his arm and chest. Locals responded by shutting down Old Cachar Road to demand better protection for their farms. Authorities eventually reached a deal with village leaders to boost security after the blockade. Joujangtek has a grim history of unrest, including a deadly 2026 ambush that killed one civilian and left a couple seriously hurt. Residents are now demanding justice, saying, "The incident marks the latest escalation in a series of violent incidents in the region."
