Shillong: Three laborers from Bihar died Monday after a massive pit collapsed at The Palace Aravalli Resort near Jaipur. The accident occurred on the Delhi Highway when a massive section of soil suddenly gave way. Six workers were trapped under the debris inside a sewage pit measuring 100 feet long and 20 feet deep.
Construction crews were backfilling soil when the earth moved. The collapse caught the workers below by surprise. Local residents helped clear the site before emergency teams arrived. Doctors at NIMS Hospital later confirmed the deaths of three men, while three others remain in critical condition.
Police have launched an investigation into the collapse. Authorities are now searching for the resort contractor who reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local officials stressed the need for accountability regarding job site safety. As one official noted, "Building collapses often leave little chance for escape, putting workers and residents at grave risk."
Investigators are still trying to determine why the pit wall failed. The victims' bodies are currently held at the mortuary for post-mortem exams. Police state the case remains open as they hunt for the missing supervisor.
