Guwahati: Three officials from the Assam Fishery Development Corporation Ltd were taken back into custody on June 10 as part of an expanding corruption investigation. The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption confirmed the arrests of former Officer on Special Duty and Project Director Padma Kanta Hazarika, along with colleagues Birinchi Adikari and Jyotish Saikia.
These latest arrests stem from Dispur Police Station Case 298/2022. The charges involve multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, and criminal breach of trust by a public servant. According to the Directorate, the agency is investigating both cases, with the latest arrests linked to alleged irregularities being probed under the Dispur police case.
Hazarika had previously been arrested on May 30 in a separate matter filed by the Anti-Corruption Branch under the Prevention of Corruption Act. That earlier investigation also led to the arrests of eight other corporation officials on May 26. Following their appearance before a local court on June 10, the three men were remanded to two days of police custody to assist with the ongoing inquiry.
