Thoubal Commando Killed During Anti-Drug Operation

Imphal: A Havildar from the Thoubal Commando unit was killed on Wednesday night after being stabbed during an anti-drug operation in the Moijing Khongkok Leingoijin area. The victim, 39-year-old Khoirom Suresh Singh, was part of a plainclothes team acting on intelligence reports regarding drug trafficking.

The incident occurred around 8:45 pm when officers intercepted two suspects moving contraband from the Thoubal Leishangthem area. As the team attempted to apprehend a suspect at the Moijing site, a scuffle broke out. During the struggle, one individual allegedly attacked the officer with a knife, causing fatal injuries. Despite being rushed to the District Hospital in Thoubal, the officer died.

Police have identified the primary suspect as 27-year-old Md. Naobi, also known as Md. Tamirjur, who was arrested from a hiding spot on Thursday morning. Another man, Md. Salman, has also been linked to the case. Thoubal Superintendent of Police Manoj Prabhakar oversaw the search operation following the attack. According to police sources, the incident occurred when a civil-dressed team was "conducting an operation based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of suspected drug traffickers."

The deceased officer's body was sent to the JNIMS mortuary for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the full circumstances of the attack and if other individuals were involved.
