Imphal: The Thadou Inpi Manipur and community leaders have expressed profound sorrow and indignation following a targeted armed attack in the Kangpokpi district that resulted in the deaths of three prominent church figures. The victims, identified as Dr. Rev. Vumthang Sitlhou, President of the Thadou Baptist Association India, Rev. Kaigoulun, and Pastor Paogoulen, were ambushed on what is locally known as the Tiger-German Road. In addition to the fatalities, five other church workers suffered gunshot wounds and are currently receiving medical care at the Shija Hospitals and Research Institute.

Amidst the mourning, the Thadou community has issued a firm objection regarding the public classification of the victims. Community representatives stated that the individuals were ethnically Thadou and demanded that external organizations refrain from using the labels Kuki or Thadou-Kuki. They characterized such misidentifications as offensive and inaccurate, insisting that the distinct heritage of the Thadou people be acknowledged and respected. The Thadou Inpi Manipur has officially declared the three men as Thadou Martyrs and requested that their burial take place at the Thadou Baptist Association compound in Kangpokpi.
