Guwahati: A prime suspect in a high-profile robbery case was killed during a late-night confrontation with police in Assam. The incident occurred on May 25 in the Borkandoli area of Rangalu, located within the Nagaon district.

Authorities identified the deceased as Khairul Ali, a resident of North Lakhimpur who had been a fugitive since the Morikolong robbery. Police received intelligence suggesting that Ali had returned to the area on Monday night to coordinate a new robbery attempt. A tactical team was deployed to intercept the group, leading to an armed clash.

According to police reports, the suspects initiated the exchange by firing at officers. Police returned fire, striking Ali. Although he was rushed to the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital, he died from his injuries while in transit. Officers recovered a 7.65 mm pistol and two empty cartridges from the scene. An investigation into the activities of the group remains ongoing.
