Suspected Militants Attack Funeral and Supply Convoy in Manipur's Ukhrul District

Imphal: Suspected militants launched a violent attack on mourners attending a funeral service at TM Kasom in Manipur’s Ukhrul district on May 29. The incident occurred as families gathered for the last rites of an elderly villager. Armed individuals, reportedly arriving from the nearby hamlet of Patleijang, opened fire near the cemetery and triggered widespread panic among the community.

On the same day, another violent confrontation took place in the Kasom area involving a convoy of civilian trucks transporting Food Corporation of India rice. Militants targeted the vehicles along the Imphal-Ukhrul road, resulting in the death of a truck driver at the scene. Manipur Police and central security forces arrived later to recover the body.

Authorities have not yet identified the deceased driver or provided further specifics regarding the motives behind these attacks. While videos of the funeral incident have circulated on social media, officials are still working to verify their authenticity. Security forces remain on high alert in the region as tensions persist in the aftermath of the violence.
