Guwahati: An eight-year-old girl was raped and killed in the Madan Mohan area of Sribhumi district. She went missing at 10 am. Her family found her body hidden in bushes on a nearby hillock.

Angry locals caught a man named Zakir Alam Talukdar at the scene. They handed him over to authorities. Residents claimed the local police post ignored the crime, saying the station was only 300 metres away. "Police did not visit the spot immediately," residents reported. The community blocked the Chorgola to Hailakandi road to protest the delay.

The standoff forced a response from district headquarters. A senior officer suspended Mohan Lal Das, the officer in charge of the Madan Mohan petrol post, for his slow reaction. Police moved Talukdar to the Sadar station after clearing the road blockade. Detectives are still working the case.
