Star Cement Trucker Strike Hits Two-Week Mark

Shillong: Truck drivers for Star Cement Ltd in Lumshnong hit the 15-day mark of their strike today. The protest began on October 1 in East Jaintia Hills. Drivers claim current pay rates fail to match their daily workload. They want a raise. Management remains unresponsive to their repeated pleas.

Drivers met Thursday at the Khliehtyrshi Bypass to plot their next steps. The company recently invited the workers to Shillong for talks. The truckers left the meeting feeling let down. They argued the management offers no real solutions to break the deadlock.

The group also cited friction within their ranks. Some local truck owners stepped away from the protest. The striking drivers insisted that unity matters most. As one driver noted, "the current payment rates are no longer commensurate with their workload." Without a unified front, the drivers struggle to force the company to the table.
