Kohima: St. Paul’s Parish in Wokha celebrated its feast day this Sunday. The event featured the inauguration of a new Marian Grotto. The parish unites St. Paul’s Church in Wokha, St. Anthony’s Church in Chukitong, and Sacred Heart Church in Humtso.
The day began at the church basketball court. Limhathung Lious Patton welcomed the crowd before a Rosary procession moved to the grotto site. Rev. Fr. Anto Tharakan SDB led the dedication. Wobenthung J Patton offered thanks afterward.
Rev. Fr. Tharakan led the Holy Mass. Nineteen candidates received their First Holy Communion during the service. Church officials from all three member congregations handled the Scripture readings and the Gospel proclamation. The congregation later joined in fellowship and prayer.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Tharakan reminded believers that Jesus must remain the priority in their lives. He explained that discipleship requires carrying one’s cross. He cited Philippians 1:21 to illustrate this devotion: "For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."
The priest clarified that putting Christ first does not mean abandoning family. He assured the congregation that even minor acts of charity in the name of God hold great value. The celebration ended with a large gathering of parishioners in a spirit of unity.
