Itanagar: A blaze tore through the brush in West Kameng on Sunday afternoon. The fire sparked near the Jyoti Nagar residential complex at 2:30 pm. It chewed through 300 metres of land. The flames threatened local houses and public assets near the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports.

The 30th Battalion SSB arrived first. They sent a rapid rescue team to the scene immediately. Dirang police soon followed with a fire tender. These crews linked up with local volunteers and a paramilitary water tanker to beat back the flames. The crew stopped the fire before it hit nearby homes.

Officials credited the quick team effort for preventing a major disaster. SSB leaders praised their troops for acting fast and keeping the community safe. They noted that the responding personnel had upheld the force's guiding principle of "Service, Security and Brotherhood."
