Guwahati: A speeding car plowed into a garage at Dehing Tea Estate in Assam on July 3. The Maruti Swift Dzire, plate number AS 23 G 8598, careened off National Highway 315. It smashed into at least five parked motorcycles and scooters. The wreckage left the garage in ruins.

Pappu Shah, 32, took the brunt of the impact. He suffered serious head injuries while working. Local residents raced to pull him from the debris. They rushed the victim to Margherita Civil Hospital. Doctors there quickly sent him elsewhere for specialized care. His condition remains dire.

The car flipped over during the chaos. It landed hard on the roadside dirt. The driver ditched the vehicle and bolted. Margherita police arrived shortly after to cordone off the scene. They are hunting for the suspect. Officials confirmed that they have "launched an investigation into the incident."
