Silchar Muslims Protest Proposed Uniform Civil Code Bill

Guwahati: Muslims in Silchar rallied against the state government's proposed Uniform Civil Code Bill this Friday. Worshippers gathered outside a mosque in the Berenga area immediately following prayer services to voice their dissent.

Local religious and social groups organized the demonstration. Protesters held petitions demanding the total withdrawal of the legislation. They claimed the Bill violates constitutional guarantees of religious freedom and clashes directly with Muslim Personal Law.

Speakers at the event warned that the code would erode their specific religious practices. One speaker stated, "The implementation of the UCC would adversely affect the Muslim community's personal laws and religious practices."

The group vowed to keep fighting the proposal using peaceful, democratic methods. The event ended without incident. Local law enforcement reported that order remained normal throughout the day.
