Gangtok: Sikkim Tourism secured the Award of Excellence for promoting rural and sustainable travel at the Travel and Tourism Fair in Mumbai. The three-day event concluded on August 22, 2026. Sikkim served as the Partner State under the Sikkim INSPIRES initiative.
The pavilion saw heavy traffic. Visitors, travel agents, and industry experts crowded the booth to discuss nature-based products and hospitality. The state delegation included Dipti Rai, Assistant Director of the Namchi District Tourism Office, and Tourist Officer Ruth Rai. They led a group of over 15 stakeholders, including representatives from the Village Tourism Development Committee, Buddha Park, and local hotel owners.
Interest spiked during the event. Mumbai travelers booked several tour packages while business partners made numerous inquiries. Stakeholders believe this interest will grow the visitor numbers from Maharashtra significantly. The trip also opened doors for new business deals across India.
Participants praised Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and Tourism Minister Tshering T. Bhutia for backing the initiative. They said, "Such platforms help tourism stakeholders from different parts of Sikkim access wider markets, develop business opportunities and strengthen market linkages."
The department plans to leverage this success to grow its footprint in domestic markets. They aim to push community-led development alongside state growth.
