Shillong: Shillong Traffic Police teamed up with the Laitumkhrah Dorbar on Wednesday night to clean up the city streets. They launched Operation Safer Shillong. Officers and the Special Operation Team locked down entry and exit points across the area to stop rule-breakers from slipping through the net.
The joint patrol hit hard. They caught 80 drivers for various traffic offenses, including illegal vehicle modifications and driving under the influence. The state collected Rs 81,500 in fines during the sweep. Officials noted that the community and the law are now on the same page.
Drunk drivers faced strict consequences. Police refused to let them back behind the wheel. They held the motorists until a family member or guardian arrived to collect them and their vehicles, enforcing discipline through community oversight.
Authorities plan to run these night checks regularly. They aim to stop reckless behavior and push for zero road fatalities. The message remains clear: follow the rules or pay the price.
