Shamator District Officials Review Water and Sanitation Infrastructure Progress

Kohima: District Water and Sanitation Mission officials convened in Shamator on June 16 to assess the current status of the Jal Jeevan Mission and Swachh Bharat Mission. Deputy Commissioner Arikumba chaired the session, which focused on bolstering the district's long-term water security and sanitation infrastructure.

PHED SDO and DWSM Secretary Imnaingsang Longchar provided a detailed implementation report during the meeting. He urged various departments to coordinate their efforts, stating, "share water and sanitation-related data to facilitate harmonisation of information on the Ministry's online platform."

The council explored strategies to stabilize village water systems by prioritizing community involvement in operation and maintenance tasks. Officials emphasized that sustainable infrastructure relies heavily on local awareness and engagement. Additionally, the committee evaluated plans to install child-friendly toilets and water stations at local schools and Anganwadi centers using established government funding.

Participants concluded the meeting by addressing the broader need for a conjunctive water management approach. This strategy aims to optimize resource use and ensure the district remains resilient against future water supply challenges.
