Imphal: Veteran politician and former Janata Dal (United) spokesperson Nimaichand Luwang officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday. The induction ceremony took place at the party headquarters in Imphal, attended by Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, state BJP president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi, and Home Minister K. Govindas.

Luwang stated that his move to the ruling party was motivated by a desire to foster peace and development across the state rather than personal gain. He also confirmed that five of his family members, including Gokul Luwang, are joining the party alongside him. Luwang previously contested the 2012 Assembly elections on a Manipur People's Party ticket.

Chief Minister Khemchand Singh welcomed the new members and characterized the event as a reflection of increasing public trust in the party's governance. He emphasized that the BJP remains dedicated to the progress and prosperity of Manipur as the state prepares for Legislative Assembly elections expected early next year.
