Security officers seize 4.1kg of suspected brown sugar at Imphal Airport

Imphal: Security personnel at Imphal International Airport intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt on Thursday, seizing 4.1 kilograms of suspected brown sugar. The discovery occurred during standard pre-boarding screenings around 11:20 am as two passengers prepared to board a flight to Kolkata.

The illicit substances were identified after the hand luggage triggered an alert in the CISF X-Ray scanning system. When security staff conducted a thorough manual inspection of the bags, they recovered the concealed consignment. Authorities detained the two suspects immediately, preventing them from boarding their scheduled IndiGo flight.

The individuals have been identified as 24-year-old Kh. Sabir Ahamed and 26-year-old Syed Sabir Ali, both from the Imphal East district. Following the arrest, enforcement agencies launched an investigation to trace the origin of the drugs and determine if the pair is connected to an interstate trafficking network. While official sources stated that the "contraband is suspected to be brown sugar," the final results remain subject to pending forensic analysis.
