Imphal: Security forces swept through three districts on June 26, pulling a massive haul of illegal weaponry from the ground. Police confirmed the seizures occurred during ongoing state-wide efforts to clear out hidden caches of arms.
In Noney district, teams scoured the area near Joujangtek. They walked away with two single-barrel guns and 49 cartridges. Thoubal district saw a separate strike near the Tentha Samuching foothills. Officers recovered an SMG carbine and five bolt-action rifles from that site.
The biggest haul came from the hills between Maohing village and North Changoubung. Kangpokpi police oversaw a search that turned up an AK-47, a 9 mm carbine, and four pistols. The cache also included 29 single-barrel guns, two pump-action shotguns, and 129 rounds of live ammunition. Authorities found three improvised explosive devices, 200 grams of PEK explosive, and two hand grenades. They also bagged three Baofeng radio sets during the sweep. Police said the recoveries were part of "ongoing operations to trace and seize illegally held weapons across the State."
