Security forces seize large weapons cache in Kangpokpi raid

Imphal: Security forces pulled a massive stash of weapons from a hill road in Kangpokpi district today. A joint team of the Kangpokpi District Police and the 19 Assam Rifles moved in at 5:00 a.m. after getting tips about a hidden cache. They focused on a spot four and a half kilometres southeast of the Kotlen Company Operating Base.

The search turned up a 5.56 mm Excalibur rifle, four bolt-action rifles, four pull-mechanism rifles, four improvised mortars, and a grenade launcher. Soldiers also hauled away five mortar bombs, 200 rounds of AK-47 ammo, and various rifle magazines. They found a sniper rifle scope, blasting wire, and a Baofeng radio set.

Police stated, "No arrests were made in connection with the recovery, and no untoward incident was reported during the operation." The gear hunt wrapped up by 8:45 a.m. No fights broke out during the morning sweep.
