Agartala: Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized 55,626 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup at the Agartala railway station. The bust netted contraband worth Rs 1.27 crore. Authorities acted on specific intelligence regarding a shipment moving through the rail network.

Security teams intercepted the cargo after pinning down the suspect consignment. They searched the area and found the stash. Officials stated the haul was meant for illegal transport. The operation reflects ongoing efforts to block the movement of narcotics across the Northeast.

The seized goods now sit with the DRI in Agartala for legal processing. Officials confirmed the investigation is active as they attempt to track the origin and destination of the drugs. No arrests were reported Thursday. An official noted the operation was part of "coordinated efforts by enforcement agencies to check the trafficking of narcotic and psychotropic substances through transit routes in the Northeast." Investigators continue to hunt for those behind the smuggling ring.
