Security Forces Launch Manhunt After Deadly Manipur Ambush

Imphal: A joint task force is scouring Manipur's Ukhrul district for the militants who ambushed an Assam Rifles convoy on July 6. The attack at Nungshong Khong killed Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and Havildar C.M. Singh. A third soldier suffered injuries in the blast.

Assam Rifles, BSF, and Manipur Police launched the operation Friday in the Nungshang area. Teams are combing through forests, homes, and transit routes. They want the shooters. The goal is to clear out militant camps, seize hidden weapons, and stop more violence.

The Assam Rifles stated on X that the operation shows an "unwavering commitment of the security forces to restore peace and normalcy, maintain law and order, and ensure that those responsible for the ambush are brought to justice."

Commanders have beefed up security across the district. Extra troops now guard strategic points. Police are running stop-and-search operations on major roads to block the movement of armed gangs. Authorities are keeping a close watch on sensitive areas to prevent the situation from spiraling further.
