Security Forces Arrest Two RPF/PLA Cadres for Extortion in Manipur

Imphal: Security forces arrested two active members of the Revolutionary People's Front and People's Liberation Army on Monday, June 1. The arrests took place during separate operations within the Imphal East district of Manipur, where officials targeted individuals allegedly involved in local extortion schemes.

Authorities identified the first suspect as 49-year-old Maibam Arun Singh, also known as Uru, of Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai. He was apprehended near a community hall at Top Awang Leikai within the Porompat Police Station jurisdiction. Shortly after, security personnel detained 30-year-old Thangjam Surankumar Singh, known as Achouba or Rajesh, from Pourabi Awang Leikai. His arrest occurred at Top Makha Leikai, which also falls under the Porompat police area.

Officials confirmed that both men remain active in the proscribed militant organization. Investigators are now working to determine if the suspects participated in other illegal acts and are searching for wider criminal networks operating throughout the region.
