Search underway for two students swept away in Dhubri river

Guwahati: Two Class VII students vanished Saturday afternoon while bathing in a river near Panchu Ghat in Dhubri. A strong current swept the boys away. The victims are Sumit Das, who attends Dhubri Government Boys Higher Secondary School, and Purav Malla, a student at Bangla Vidyapith School. Both boys lived in the local Panchu Ghat neighborhood.

Search crews are working now. The State Disaster Response Force deployed divers to scour the river water for the missing pair. Police and local officials remain on the scene to monitor the operation. Authorities provided a preliminary report stating the boys "had gone to the river to bathe when they were swept away by the strong current and went missing." Divers continue to comb the area for any sign of the students.
