Itanagar: Rescue teams called off the search for two people missing since a June 24 cloudburst in Keyi Panyor. The operation lasted eight days. Authorities believe the victims were swept downstream into Assam by the heavy current of the Subansiri River.
Keyi Panyor Superintendent of Police Angad Mehta confirmed the decision. He said, "The extensive search operation had been called off after sustained efforts failed to locate the missing individuals."
The disaster triggered severe damage to roads and homes across the district. Infrastructure failures crippled initial relief efforts. NEEPCO dam gates stayed open for two days to dump rising water. This created dangerous conditions on the river. The first 48 hours proved the hardest for recovery crews.
Mehta praised local volunteers for delivering food, water, and medical kits to stranded residents. He thanked the community for stepping up when the damage blocked access to many affected areas. Officials continue to monitor the district as cleanup efforts move forward.
